The russian revolution of 1917 and the civil war of 1918 are the most historical remembered events in Russia as it was the end for royals and a new beggining. 1917 and 1918 were also the years during the world war I so there was a big tense moment. It was a world war and a revolution combined in one country! It was a war between the Bolsheviks and Royals. The 1917 war was between 4,200,000 Imperial Russian Army soldiers and 200,000 Red Guards (an army mixed of soldiers and workers. Used to be controlled by the Bolshevicks).
There was also the White party, and a party wanting to restore order. The Whites had their own army of 2,400,000 men. There were two spectucular events in 1917. One was the February Revolution of March 12 1917 , which made the tsar quit 3 days after, and the October revolution of October 25th , which was led by Bolshevicks to gain power. The February revolution consisted of 90.000 men and women protesting around Petrograd, the Russian capital in those times. As the tsar was busy preparing for the war, he couldn`t stop the protesters and quit.
When the tsar resigned, most of the people chose a special committee called the Russian Provisional Government of Duma. ( a Russian government assembly). The Provisinal Government lasted eigth months, from March 15 1917 to July 1917 led by Prince Georgy Lvov and when by Alexander Kerensky. The Provision Government`s mission was to change the country from Royalty to Government system.
The Provisinal Government also decided to not withdraw from war with Germany, a decision which proved to be fatal. When the October revolution strung, it was led by Lenin and directed at getting the Bolsheviks power. The October revolution destroyed the Provisional Government and put the Bolshevics in power for the time. It also established the Red army, an army created by the Bolshevicks from the remains of the Imperial army. But then the battle for power began. There established the White army, an anti-soviet army. And the Russian civil war began.
Firstly, the Soviet decided to make peace with the Central Powers as if a civil war and a world war was on, when the country would have been destroyed. The Bolshevicks won after a series of bloody battles. They lost 1,212,824 men and the White army lost 1,500,000 men.
